Minoan Women Series

The island of crete was the home of the Minoan culture. The symbol of their culture was the palace and the main palace was called Knossos. The women who lived in 1650 b.c. in this place called Knossos were Minoan. They were extremely intelligent and powerful as their's was a matriarchal society.

Their civilization was very advanced. They were the first people of their time to have beneath the palace a remarkably effecient drainage system which made Knossos one of the most sanitary cities existing before the 20th century. They also introduced the use of the potter's wheel.

I've always had an interest in Archaeology and ancient civilizations. After reading about Knossos in Crete, I was inspired to do this series of Minoan women for the strength and courage they stood for. I've incorporated natural materials to mount the sculptures on, to further portray the symbols of their culture.
