“Maiko Geisha”

by

Marsha Gertenbach

When viewing my sculpture you will enter into the world of the Geisha as

she spends four or moreyears learning the art of a Geisha.

In modern Japan, Geisha and Maiko, the apprentice Geisha,

are now a rare sight outside the Geisha districts.

The tradition of the Geisha is becoming a lost art.

Young women are not keen to take on the nun-like career of a Geisha

They preferthe freedoms most 21st century young women enjoy.

The Geisha is considered to bepart of an elegant,

high culture world particularly known in Japan.

I felt inspired to create this sculpture to honor the beauty

of this slowly diminishing culture.
